Facilitation 101

Facilitation has been likened to walking through fire.  (This image strongly resonates with me, although I confess to never actually walking through fire . . . imagination gets me close enough.)

Facilitation requires first, an appreciative mindset, and secondly, an armload of strategies ready
at a moment’s notice to help keep a group moving forward.

I recently taught a well-received two-hour workshop on facilitation exploring the “tone” and the “task” of facilitation.  My intent is to develop workshops for newbies as well as for more experienced facilitators in response to requests for help with facilitation and process.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has developed a 5-Day Experiential Workshop on facilitation titled, “The Journey of Facilitation and Collaboration…an Integral Approach.”

For experienced facilitators interested in improving their skills and connecting with a wider network, I highly recommend this workshop.  It gave me a fuller appreciation for the complexity of facilitating, new tools (some of which I have already used with a client within a week of returning home) and the opportunity to practice and network with inspiring facilitators from other parts of the country.
